Simon Grayson's Sunderland are enduring a torrid campaign so far in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Mackems are currently languishing in 23rd spot in the division after a shocking start to the season which has seen them pick up just one win.

The side face the genuine threat of relegation if they do not pick up their form soon, and the writers here at Football League World have had their say on their current plight.

Can they go down? Here's what the team here at FLW think...

Alfie Burns

A real possibility. Grayson faces a mammoth task at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland looking like they could be about to fall through the trap door.

Despite still having a number of talented players, the Black Cats are struggling, and Grayson will be worried by his side’s current run of form.

Something needs to drastically change in the coming months, or we could see Sunderland become a League One outfit in May 2018.

George Dagless

Despite their poor form this season and in the last few, it would be a massive shock if Sunderland dropped down again.

There's a worrying dearth of confidence at the core of the club but they do have some good players that, if they can just find a run of form, should help them stay up.

I expect them to be just about fine.

Adam Simeoni

Sunderland will simply not go down this season.

The squad on Wearside is too good to be relegated, and Grayson's men will begin to pick up results in due course.

I can see them doing an Aston Villa, struggling this year before bringing in the right men next summer to mount a playoff challenge.

I do fear the Black Cats could be stuck in the division for a long time however if they are not promoted within the next couple of years.

Chris Gallagher

Wolves have shown in recent years that back-to-back relegation's can happen and we all know how competitive the Championship is, so Sunderland most certainly could go down.

They still haven't kept a clean sheet all season and their home record is embarrassingly bad. Whilst there are three inferior sides on paper, it's hard to envisage Simon Grayson's men pulling away easily.

It's going to be another tough season for the excellent Black Cats fans who continue to turn out in huge numbers.
