Carlos Carvalhal has been put under huge pressure at Sheffield Wednesday in recent months, but prior to the international break the Owls staged a revival, recording back-to-back victories in the Sky Bet Championship.

Wednesday edged past Millwall and Aston Villa in the space of five days, which helped to temporarily lift the growing pressure on Carvalhal and his players.

Jordan Rhodes scored the decisive goal in those two victories, with the striker finally showing signs that he could be settling in at Hillsborough.

Rhodes’ impact in the first-team has left many wondering what Steven Fletcher’s role within Carvalhal’s squad is now, with the Scotsman facing a spell in Rhodes’ shadow.

Our writers assess whether Fletcher still has a role to play at Hillsborough…

George Dagless

He does but only as a squad player.

Fletcher might have assumed he'd be a squad player anyway this season when Rhodes arrived for big money.

The summer signing's poor start seemed to delay that transition, of course, but it looks as though it has come about now.

Sam Rourke

Unfortunately for Fletcher, I can't see him getting back into the side anytime soon.

Jordan Rhodes is seemingly starting to find his feet at Hillsborough and has scored a handful of goals since being handed a starting berth by Carvalhal.

I can only see a bit-part role for Fletcher from now on.

Adam Simeoni

People need to calm down about Jordan Rhodes.

He has scored two goals in as many games, after going almost 10 months without doing a single thing for the club.

His form could easily dip once again, and the more consistent Fletcher could be back in the fold before you know it.

I hope Rhodes continues his goal scoring form because I like the player, but it is too soon for him to be given such lofty praise.

Chris Gallagher

Yes he does, there's a long season ahead.

Rhodes has finally hit some good form, but how long will it last?

Wednesday need more from Fletcher, but injuries, form and suspension will see him get a chance again over the season.

He just needs to improve when he gets that opportunity.
