Transfer season is well underway now with a lot of business expected to be done amongst the clubs in the EFL.

One player who is attracting plenty of attention is Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo with a host of clubs apparently willing to do battle for his signature with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.

Aribo scored ten goals in all competions last season and assisted five more as Lee Bowyer's side were promoted to the second-tier via the play-offs.

But the team leading the charge for the 22-year-old is one north of the border with Steven Gerrard's Rangers looking most likely to land him, according to Football Insider.

So, what should we make of the whole situation?

Taking on today's six-point opinion is Louie Chandler...

Would this be a good signing for Rangers?

"It would be an excellent signing for Rangers.

"Last season saw them push Celtic close for the SPL title and this summer could prove crucial in closing that gap even further.

"Bringing in somebody like Aribo on a free transfer would send a real message to their league rivals and ensure that they are battling at the top once again."

Would he be an upgrade on what they already have?

"I would say so.

"Rangers have some tidy midfielders but none that offer the same attacking prowess that Aribo does. In their position they need players who will drive them forward and Aribo does that."

What are is best attributes?

"His positivity and intelligence.

"When Aribo receives the ball in midfield his first instinct is to get forward and when he does he rarely plays the wrong pass.

"His ability to drift into the box at the right time to polish of a chance is something that Gerrard himself would be proud of."

Would it be a good move for him?

"It would be a good move but I think he could do better.

"That is not to say bigger. Rangers are a massive club and realistically Aribo does not have much chance of moving to a club of greater stature.

"But in terms of his progression I think it would do him far more good to stay in England and continue to test himself at a higher standard than the SPL."

Could Rangers do better?

"They could well be able to bring in a better midfielder.

"But they will not be able to find a better deal than this one all summer. When a player of Aribo's quality becomes available on a free you simply have to take it.

"It is a move that would allow them to spend on other positions too which can only be a good thing."

Will it happen?

"I can definitely see it going through.

"Aribo may be reluctant to leave Charlton after the season they just had but they are hardly a stable club at the moment and if a more secure offer comes along I think he will take it."
