Football League World's Barnsley fan pundit Dan Sykes has suggested that he believes the Yorkshire club will back new manager Gerhard Struber in the January transfer window.

The Tykes appointed the Austrian coach on Wednesday, almost six weeks after they sacked Daniel Stendel.

Barnsley are bottom of the Championship and have won just once in the 2019/20 campaign but will likely have newfound confidence after the change of leadership.

With January less than six weeks away, you feel Barnsley need to back their new boss when the transfer window reopens to aid their chances of survival.

Sykes has indicated he believes the club will have given Struber assurances about strengthening via the transfer market in January.

He said: "Because of the level of compensation paid to AS Wolfsberger, the length of his contract and the fact he has been allowed to bring in his own coaching set up, I am sure discussions have been had about what he feels he needs in January and has been given some form of assurance that he will be backed.

"He said yesterday that he has seen many of our games and can see what we need."

He added: "He also stated that this team needs leaders, so I am hoping that someone with a hundred or so first-team games and a bit of leadership experience will come in in January, although I doubt it will be anyone over the age of 24."

Struber's first game in charge will come against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday.
