Brighton snatched a 2-1 victory from under the nose of Birmingham last night with a dramatic late turnaround to close the gap on league leaders Newcastle United.

The Seagulls knew coming into the game that the Magpies had won and the gap had opened up to four points, so the pressure on them was huge.

In Gianfranco Zola's first game in charge, Birmingham took the lead through Lukas Jutkiewicz, but they failed to hold onto the lead as Anthony Knockaert levelled the scores on 82 minutes, setting up a grandstand finish at St Andrew's.

And Glenn Murray grabbed a dramatic 95th minute winner for Chris Hughton's side, when Knockaert turned provider from a corner.

The victory closed the gap to Newcastle to just a solitary point, and with most of the chasing pack winning too, their gap to third place remains at eight points.
