Bristol City's relegation fears grew following a dismal away performance on Tuesday night as the Robins fell victim to a 2-0 loss against Aston Villa, as pressure mounts on manager Lee Johnson.

Former striker Jonathan Kodjia, who departed Ashton Gate last summer, gave the hosts the lead early in the second-half following a penalty miss in the first set of 45 minutes.

Just minutes later City fell further behind as midfielder Conor Hourihane bagged Aston Villa a second of the night, although was largely down to Bailey Wright losing the ball.

Despite the seemingly dominance from the hosts, Bristol City did have a couple of chances of their own. Wright and Calum O'Dowda were both denied by the woodwork either side of the interval.

This result means Bristol City loom outside the drop zone on goal difference after Blackburn Rovers gained three points at home to Derby.
