Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Chris Wilder has praised David Brooks, after the youngster made it clear to his agent that he wanted to remain at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United.

Brooks handed the Blades a major boost earlier this week, agreeing a new long-term deal with the Sky Bet Championship outfit. The 20-year-old signed a new four-year deal with Sheffield United, which leaves him contracted at Bramall Lane until at least the summer of 2021.

Wilder has praised Brooks for committing his long-term future to the Blades, particularly for not letting his agent rule his decisions. The Sheffield United boss said: “Players are being run by agents, but this boy (Brooks) isn’t being run by his agent.

“He wants to stay here, he made that perfectly clear to his agent, and the agent has to do a deal with the club.

“He enjoys his football, you can see that by the way he plays, and this is the right club for him. I am not going to say he will be here for the next
10-15 years, you don’t know what’s round the corner in football. But he sees his immediate future here and I am delighted.”

Brooks has only made 16 senior appearances for the Blades, including just three starts in the Championship this season. However, his rapid development has earned him an improved deal at Bramall Lane, with the 20-year-old a vital member of Wilder’s squad that is excelling in the second-tier.

The Blades currently sit third in the Championship table after 12 fixtures, level on points with second placed, Cardiff City. Wilder’s side are looking to maintain their place inside the division’s top-three this weekend, when last season’s beaten play-off finalists, Reading, visit Bramall Lane.

The Verdict

Premier League clubs will clearly be monitoring Brooks’ development, and rightly so, as the 20-year-old has enjoyed a magnificent start to the season with Sheffield United.

However, Bramall Lane is the best place for the youngster to continue his development, with Wilder the perfect man to aid that development.

Wilder has put his faith in Brooks, and the player is repaying that with some excellent performances and a long-term commitment to the club.
