Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United to sell striker Jay-Roy Grot and does not believe that he is good enough for the Championship.

The 21-year-old joined Leeds in 2017 but failed to make an impact at Elland Road, scoring one goal in 22 appearances in all competitions.

The forward failed to impress Marcelo Bielsa last summer and spent last season on loan at Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo, where he scored six goals in 33 league appearances.

It was reported last week that Bielsa is prepared to give the striker another chance to prove himself at Leeds in pre-season but Whelan is far from convinced by what he has seen from the player.

However, the ex-Leeds striker has told Football Insider that he believes Grot is not good enough for the Championship and has urged his former club to sell the player and use the money to strengthen the squad in other areas.

So, is Whelan right? Should Leeds look to sell Grot this summer? We discuss...

Toby Wilding

"I agree, they should let him go.

"Grot's record is not one that suggests he could make a difference to Leeds next season, especially if they are to challenge for promotion.

"It would make sense therefore to look to move him along, making space in the squad and on the wage bill to bring in the type of players who could make a difference at Elland Road next season."

George Harbey

"I think that’s a very harsh statement from Whelan.

"Grot didn’t have the greatest of seasons with Leeds by any means under Thomas Christiansen, but he deserves a chance to impress under Bielsa.

"Look how much Mateusz Klich has changed under Bielsa, he looks to be a completely different player.

"They need some fresh options up top and he could provide that."

George Brooks

"I think Leeds should look to sell the player this summer.

"It might seem harsh, but if Leeds want to win promotion next season, they need strikers who are going to score goals on a consistent basis.

"It's a shame really because Grot could develop into a good player in time, but Leeds need someone who can make an impact straight away and I'm not convinced he can do that.

"Selling him would allow Bielsa to strengthen his squad in other areas too."
