Leeds winger Stuart Dallas has claimed that Paddy McNair deserves to play more for Middlesbrough following his match-winning performance for Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

McNair scored the only goal of the game as Northern Ireland beat Belarus to make it four straight wins from their opening four games of qualifying for Euro 2020 - and Dallas was full of praise for McNair after the win.

Speaking about the 24-year-old, Dallas was quoted by the Teesside Gazette revealing just how impressed he is by the former Manchester United man.

"I’m delighted for Paddy. Paddy has been excellent. He’s had a tough season at Middlesbrough. He should be playing more regularly in my eyes but he’s proved what a really good player he is."

Since moving to Middlesbrough from Sunderland last summer, McNair has struggled to make an impact at the Riverside Stadium, having started just seven league games since his arrival.

So is Dallas right that McNair deserves more opportunities at Middlesbrough?

We put that question to some of our Football League World writers...

Tommy Joyce

"When McNair made the short trip from Sunderland to Boro for around £5million, you would have assumed he would have played a lot more than he has. Pulis struggled to fit him into his side, and when he has, he hasn't been sure about what his best position is.

"He played in midfield for Sunderland but has been mainly utilised in defence for Boro.

"Considering that Pulis has had the opportunity to see him play much more than Dallas, I don't think he is in a position to be saying he should start over the other competition in that squad.

"McNair might find himself more lucky under Woodgate, though, who might give him more chances."

Toby Wilding

"I think Dallas has a point here.

"Middlesbrough struggled at times last season to break teams down, which ultimately cost them in the race for a top six spot, and as McNair showed on Tuesday for Northern Ireland, he could be able to do that for them next season.

"With a new manager set to take over at The Riverside for the coming campaign, this could well be McNair's chance to make his mark at The Riverside."

Louie Chandler

"I absolutely agree.

"I must say I was very surprised with how little McNair played last season, especially given how much was spent on him during the summer.

"Middlesbrough need freshening up in nearly every aspect and McNair could hold the key to adding a bit more substance to their midfield. However, it will all come down to whether or not the new manager takes a shine to him or not."
