Shrewsbury Town are likely to go into the League One play-off final this weekend as strong favourites.

With a 100 percent win rate at Wembley in the past, having played four matches and won them all, and knowing they finished eight points ahead of their opponents Rotherham, Paul Hurst will be confident going into this weekend’s fixture.

But, having both been on the defeat of each other already this season, perhaps caution may be needed when it comes to picking the Shrews lineup.

The Shrewsbury Town faithful will be hoping that the players can show their worth and bring back Championship football to New Meadow next season.

Here is a look at how Hurst must employ his starting lineup to get Shrewsbury promoted this weekend.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper is on loan at New Meadow from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Having played across all youth levels at international level for England already, Dean Henderson has a bright future ahead, and helping the Shrews secure a spot in the Championship might just be the perfect goodbye for the youngster.

James Bolton played 42 times in all competitions for Shrewsbury Town, and has made that right back spot his own since signing for the club in July last year.

The 23-year-old played in the play-off semi-finals and is likely to keep his spot in defence for the big match this weekend.

Aristote Nsiala has been one of the stand out players for Paul Hurst’s side this season, and is almost certain to start at Wembley this weekend.

The 26-year-old centre back has played a huge 57 games in all competitions this season for the Shrews and will be hoping to sign an impressive individual campaign off with promotion to the Championship.

Playing in the centre of a back line alongside Aristote Nsiala for the Shrews this weekend is likely to be Mat Sadler.

The 33-year-old defender has made a century of appearances for Shrewsbury Town in his three years at the New Meadow, and after a season that saw him play 55 times, he will hope to lift the play-off trophy for his side at the end of the game.

The 26-year-old left back signed for Shrewsbury Town from Accrington Stanley in August last year, and has gone on to make 46 appearances this season in all competitions.

Omar Beckles has been a solid choice for Paul Hurst all season, but after a red card late in the season, could it be a wise choice on such a big occasion?

Having started play-off semi-final second leg, Hurst is likely to stick with the young full back.

Bryn Morris has only been involved in 29 matches for Shrewsbury Town this season, but is likely to get the nod in central midfield after starting in both of the play-off semi-finals.

Perhaps one reason to choose Morris over other potential starters, is that the 22-year-old has played at international level for England across all age levels, so will be used to playing on the big stage.

Jon Nolan scored nine goals in 43 League One appearances this season, and must start for Paul Hurst’s side this weekend.

The 26-year-old midfielder has had an impressive individual campaign, and is reportedly in the running to receive PFA fans’ player of the year as a result.

Ben Godfrey has spent this season on loan at the New Meadow from Championship side Norwich City, and has had an impressive individual campaign.

The 20-year-old has made 50 appearances for the Shrews since joining last summer, and will be hoping to sign off with promotion to the Championship this weekend.

The 30-year-old left sided midfielder is all but certain to start for Shrewsbury Town this weekend, as he has made 54 appearances for the side this season in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

Out of contract at the end of this campaign, Shrewsbury should not only be looking at starting Rodman, but perhaps offering the veteran a new contract at the New Meadow.

Just like Mat Sadler, the 30-year-old has exactly 100 appearances for the club to date, but will be hoping to add one more to that this season with a place in the starting 11 for the play-off final this weekend.

The right sided attacker played 57 matches in all competitions for the Shrews this season, netting himself 12 goals along the way.

Paul Hurst would be silly to drop the wide man, as he can add not only goals, but assists to his team mates.

The 22-year-old signed for Shrewsbury Town from Norwich City on loan at the start of this season, and the deal has worked out rather well for Paul Hurst’s side.

Carlton Morris has played 53 games this season in all competitions and scored 10 goals, and certainly will be hoping to add to his tally this weekend.

And, after scoring the play-off semi-final second leg, will be filled with confidence going into the big match.
