Paul Hurst says he wants his Ipswich Town side to be fired up and on the front foot in Sunday's East Anglian Derby with rivals, Norwich City.

The Tractor Boys have not got the better of their local rivals since a 3-2 win back in the 2008/09 season when Alan Quinn, Giovanni Dos Santos and Jon Stead scored the goals.

Since then the Canaries have won six of the meetings with four of them ending in draws, including their most recent clash where Luke Chambers gave Mick McCarthy's side a 1-0 lead in the 89th minute only for Timm Klose to level the match in the 95th minute.

But Hurst remains confident his side can get a result at Portman Road on Sunday.

“I’ve been looking forward to this game," Hurst told the club's Twitter page.

"We’re due a win and what a great first win it could be against our local rivals.

"It’ll be a great occasion but it’s important we don’t get wrapped up in that and focus on the job in hand. I want them to be fired up and be on the front foot.

“They are feisty affairs, and they should be. I don’t want that to come out of our game, but we need to keep our head at the same time.”

Ipswich are still waiting for their first win of the season, and are currently propping up the rest of the Championship, having only collected two points.

Daniel Farke's Norwich are not fairing much better, with the Canaries sat in 18th and on four points from a possible 15.

The Verdict

Hurst is right that the game will no doubt be a fiery affair and that could well be all that it is.

It certainly will not be a match of high quality if the pair's opening games are anything to go by, with neither side impressing in the opening five games.

Neither side will want to lose either, so, despite Hurst's comments about them wanting to play on the front foot, I imagine it will be quite a cagey clash.
