Humphreys-Grant and Jobe Bellingham: The latest Birmingham City transfer talking points

Birmingham City find themselves in 17th place at the midway stage of this Championship season, sitting nine points outside the play-off positions.

The Blues enjoyed a good start to the campaign, showing top-six potential during the early stages of the season.

They have since struggled to follow that early-season form and are now closer in points to the relegation zone.

Birmingham will have the chance to bolster their squad once again as the January transfer window nears, as it remains to be seen if it will be a busy one.

Here, we take a look at some of the transfer talking points at Birmingham ahead of the new year…

Did Birmingham sign a player from Watford?

Jobe Bellingham a target at Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund are looking to strike a deal with Birmingham to bring Jobe Bellingham to the German giants, as reported by Football Insider.

Jobe’s older brother, Jude, made the move to BVB in the summer of 2020, in what has been a successful move for the Stourbridge-born sensation.

Given that his brother is at Dortmund, it is a move that would not be a surprise.

The 16-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues but has been impressing with the club’s U18s and U23s.

Birmingham join Championship race for Cameron Humphreys-Grant

The Daily Mail have credited Birmingham with an interest in 23-year-old defender Cameron Humphreys-Grant.

The young defender is also being watched by Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City, Coventry City and Derby County, whilst teams in Germany and Scotland are also in pursuit.

Humphreys-Grant came through the academy at Manchester City and is now plying his trade at Belgian club Zulte Waregem.

Blues looking to reduce their wage bill

Football League World exclusively learnt last week that Birmingham are looking to reduce their wage bill in January.

The Blues are looking to part company with some of the club’s highest earners, with Ivan Sunjic and Ivan Sanchez topping that list.

Harlee Dean is another name that could be heading for the exit door at St Andrew’s in January, with the club captain likely to be one of the highest earners in the squad.
