Hull standing firm after rejecting PL bid for midfield sensation

Championship outfit Hull have rejected a bid from Premier League side Burnley for midfield sensation Sam Clucas, reports reliable journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.

The 26-year-old moved to the KCOM Stadium back in 2015 following an impressive stint at Chesterfield, and he has since gone from strength to strength patrolling the Tigers midfield in both the Championship and indeed the Premier League.

The one-time England C international has played 94 times for the North East outfit over the past two years, and missed just one of their 38 league games last term as Marco Silva’s side failed to retain their top-flight status, albeit Clucas did chip in with three goals in their plight.

And his overall excellent efforts in the heart of the Hull midfield have reportedly attracted interest from some Premier League sides over the summer, notably Newcastle and Burnley, and recent reports from O’Rourke on Twitter suggest that the latter have launched a bid for the 26-year-old, but it has been rejected.

The Clarets finished just six points clear of the bottom three last term in 16th, but will likely know that things will be tougher this time round, and reinforcements are thus vital in their quest to again retain their Premier League status.

And although Clucas was relegated with Hull last term, he was one of a few shining lights in their campaign, but it appears that Burnley will have to up their valuation of the midfield star if they are to prize him away from the KCOM Stadium this summer.

The Verdict: Sam Clucas played a significant part in helping Hull reach the Premier League back in 2016, and did his level best in trying to preserve their status as a top-flight side last term.

And his efforts have not gone unnoticed by those in the league above, but Leonid Slutsky and the Hull hierarchy clearly recognise the 26-year-old’s absolute importance to the Tigers team, and have thus rejected Burnley’s bid.

The size of the bid has not been noted, but what is evident is that, if Sean Dyche wants to bring Clucas to Turf Moor, he’ll have to make a more convincing offer to tempt Hull into parting with their midfield sensation.
