Harry Maguire could miss out on a Hull City move after the FA Cup runners-up threatened to withdraw their interest in the Sheffield United defender, according to The Star.

The Sheffield-based newspaper report that £1.5m and £2m bids from the Premier League club have been rejected by the Blades, and that Tigers manager Steve Bruce is becoming increasingly frustrated with the protracted nature of the negotiations having previously indicated he would return with improved offers.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Maguire featured in the first two matches of United’s pre-season programme against Burton Albion and Northampton Town, though he was missing from Friday night’s 4-2 win over Scottish Premiership side Dundee due to illness.

Since making his senior competitive debut against Cardiff City in April 2011, the 21-year-old has made 166 appearances in all competitions, though earlier this month he was quoted by Sky Sports saying that it would be “a dream” to play in the Premier League and Europe with Hull.
