With just hours remaining of the summer transfer window, Hull City boss Leonid Slutsky is working hard to secure late deals, as he attempts to prepare his squad to challenge for an instant return to the Premier League.

The Tigers have already seen a whole host of transfers at the club this summer, with the likes of Sam Clucas and Harry Maguire heading on to new endeavours, and Jon Toral and Ola Aina joining the promotion chasers.

It is clear that Slutsky’s business is not over, and as he looks for a Clucas replacement, the Russian boss should target a loan move for Newcastle’s Jack Colback.

The 27-year-old began his career with local rivals Sunderland, before a controversial switch to St James’ Park in 2014.

Colback played an important role in securing Newcastle an instant top flight return last season, but having been omitted from Rafa Benitez’s 25-man squad this term, his future with the Magpies appears to be bleak.

Colback has proven his ability at Championship level, and his experience in gaining promotion from the division could prove vital in any success the Humberside club have this year.

Operating in the middle of the park, Colback is adept in a holding role, but like Clucas, also has the ability to get forward and chip in with the odd goal.

Clucas is obviously the better player, but Colback shares many characteristics with the new Swansea man, and would be an excellent replacement in the middle.

Slutsky should work hard to get a deal done for the player, who could be instrumental in a promotion push this semester.

Hull fans, would you be happy to see Colback replace Clucas?
