At the time, an in-form Hull City travelled west to play Leeds - the favourites to sweep away the league and achieve promotion.

The New Year was expected to be a spectacle for the home side, but they were suddenly humbled by an explosive Jarrod Bowen. The 22-year-old silenced Elland Road in a 2-0 victory by scoring both.

It was to be the start of an extraordinary run of eleven goals in eleven games. His remarkable form catapulted Hull to win six of the eleven fixtures and move into an unlikely position compared to where they originally found themselves before Nigel Adkins' appointment.

The attacking midfielder sudden rise has lured Premier League clubs into Hull's tiger cage. According to the Sun, swipes were reportedly taken by Spurs and Arsenal but no substantial attack was made. Newcastle are now the latest Premier League team to reject the valuation of the prominence Bowen has generated.

Hull have allegedly set a £20m price-tag on their top goalscorer, but the Tyneside giants believe it is too much. Steve Bruce brought his former player to the North East and hoped to be reunited with him.

Despite the lucrative distraction, Hull City manager Grant McCann says Bowen is firmly concentrated on the new season with the Championship side.

“He just gets on with it," McCann said. "Speculation does not interest him and it doesn’t interest us either really.

“Jarrod understands what he’s got to do. If he stays here then he’ll continue to be one of the best wide players in this league. That's what we’re looking for from him.”

Bowen started to receive notice two seasons ago by becoming their top goalscorer with 14 goals.

Last campaign, however, solidified his position as a goal-scoring attacking midfielder. He scored 22 goals in the league, while collecting 4 assists along the way.

It meant he was involved in a goal every 152 minutes on average; an outstanding figure for someone who has made less than 100 appearances for Hull.

Bowen has been firmly amongst the preparations for the new season. In their final preseason friendly, he assisted Jackson Irvine's opening goal and completed the full 90 minutes.

If Hull are able to retain their deadly attacking midfielder, it will be a huge boost heading into the new season. His contract runs down for next season, but the Tigers have an option for another year.

It allows them another year to reap the benefits of Bowen's attacking prowess. Providing Bowen continues to improve as his rate, it will be no surprise if he becomes a future star of the top division in the seasons to come.
