Hull City could face an uphill struggle next season if they lose manager Nigel Adkins and several of their key players in the summer.

Tigers boss Adkins is set for talks about his future with the club's owners today with the two parties yet to agree a new contract.

After a difficult start to the season, Hull were bottom in October and many fans were calling for the 54-year-old to be sacked.

However, since December, Adkins inspired an impressive turnaround in form and his side mounted an unexpected play-off charge, which only came to an end with defeat to Sheffield United on Easter Monday.

Doubts over Adkins' future in East Yorkshire stem from the expected sale of key players and lack of funds available to find replacements.

Top-scorer Jarrod Bowen has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with both Spurs and Leicester reportedly keeping tabs on the winger. Both Kamil Grosicki and captain Markus Henriksen have attracted interest from abroad, and Grosicki almost left the Tigers last summer, with a loan move to Turkish side Bursaspor falling through at the last minute.

Hull also have several players out of contract including striker Fraizer Campbell who has scored 12 goals for the club this season. Campbell signed on a free transfer after leaving Crystal Palace in 2017 and is yet to be offered a new deal.

Goalkeeper David Marshall is also out of contract and is expected to leave at the end of the season, after Adkins confirmed he will not feature in the Tigers' remaining games against Swansea and Bristol City.

Hull spent less than £5 million last summer and that figure could be even lower this year with parachute payments from the Premier League coming to an end.

The Tigers would struggle to find a manager with the same positivity as Nigel Adkins and they could face a difficult 2019/2020 campaign, should he be tempted away from the club.
