Hull City are set to take a step by step approach with Ryan Mason, as they look to help the midfielder back from a life-threatening head injury, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

Mason has been out of action since January, after an accidental clash of heads with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill left him with a fractured skull, which required emergency surgery.

The 26-year old confirmed he is working his way back to fitness, by posting a video on social media of himself taking part in some light training.

However, despite Mason taking the steps in the right direction, Hull will take a cautious approach in bringing the midfielder back into the first-team, after such a serious injury.

It is understood that Mason still has a “little way to go” before he can be considered for a first-team comeback.

Hull will be desperate to get Mason, who became the club’s record signing last summer, back in action, as they prepare themselves for a return to the Sky Bet Championship.

Following Hull’s relegation from the Premier League last season, Marco Silva quit as the club’s manager and has since been replaced by Leonid Slutsky.

Hull have suffered a further blow this summer, to add to Silva’s departure, as Harry Maguire opted to quit the KCOM Stadium for Leicester City.
