Akpom joined the Tigers in the summer on a season-long loan from Arsenal and has featured nine times for Steve Bruce's men so far, scoring once.

A 1-1 draw with Blackburn last weekend was met with disappointment by fans and players alike as Rovers rescued a point after a flat performance from Hull.

"We're gutted we are fourth. We should be higher," said a frustrated Akpom to the Hull Daily Mail following their draw with Gary Bowyer's men. "There have been a few frustrating games. Our main aim is to get promoted this season."

"The team is fourth and we haven't played our best football yet. We are still learning from our mistakes but we will click. The best is yet to come for us."

Hull fans will be delighted to know that players are not settling for their current league position, despite being one of the Championship early promotion contenders, as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League on the first attempt.

The 19-year-old striker also assured fans that he and his team mates will do what they can to improve on recent displays.

"The little things need sorting out. Sometimes we lack concentration. For example, the set-piece that we conceded could have been avoided," said Akpom referring to the Jordan Rhodes goal which came from an opposition corner.

"We can only learn from that. I am sure we will analyse it at training next week and learn from it. And try to improve"

"We are not far away. Every game will see us get better. We haven't played as well as we can. We have potential Premier League players here."

Hull travel to one of Akpom's former loan clubs, Nottingham Forest, this weekend as they look to close the gap between themselves and second placed Middlesbrough, who are five points ahead of them.
