Hull City goalkeeper George Long has heaped praise on his side’s defence and is confident of it continuing following successive Championship clean sheets.

Hull City are in a solid run of form at the moment, following a run of three straight wins, with the last two being with clean sheets as well. Their wins have come against Nottingham Forest, Derby and then Fulham most recently, to lift them to 11th and just three points off the top six.

The Tigers’ last outing was a stunning 3-0 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage where the clinical strike-force the away side possessed took most of the plaudits. However, it shouldn’t take anything away from a defensive unit that has conceded just one goal in three games.

At the back, the Tigers largely kept a very talented Fulham attack at bay, limiting the Cottagers to just one shot on target while they notched five attempts on goal. Hull ‘keeper George Long has moved to praise his sides outstanding defensive efforts in recent weeks ad hopes it will continue into their coming fixtures.

Next up, Hull face a visit from table-topping West Brom who will be looking to add goals to what is already the joint-best attack in the division. However, Long is remaining confident ahead of the test, he told the club’s official site: "I think we can only get better and stronger as a team.

"We have a brilliant group of lads and we’re all positive that we can challenge for promotion. However, our feet will remain on the ground and we only ever take one game at a time.

"It’s going to be a difficult one against West Brom but we know that we’re more than capable of getting another good result."

The Verdict

Long and Hull City face their toughest game yet when West Brom make the trip to East Yorkshire.

Having said that, the ‘keeper has every right to be confident in his own and his teammates ability after a classy dismantling of a Fulham side who many have expected to be at the top end of the table this season.

The Tigers will have to be on top form to get a result against West Brom, but the quality they have at both ends of the pitch could be enough to get a positive result and steal a march on the play-off places going into the hectic winter period.
