Hull City have enjoyed a reasonably solid start to life back in the Championship, and sit in the top half of the division following the opening five fixtures of the new season.

New boss Leonid Slutsky has overseen a plethora of transfer activity so far this summer, including the departures of Sam Clucas and Tom Huddlestone, but also the arrival of the likes of Ola Aina and Kevin Stewart, as the Russian boss attempts to balance his squad.

The Tigers are expected to be extremely busy in the coming days, and a priority for Slutsky will be to replace the goals of Abel Hernandez, who has been ruled out for seven months with a ruptured achilles.

The Uruguayan was Hull’s main goal threat, and reinforcements must arrive to ensure the club continue to find the back of the new on a consistent basis.

Burton Albion midfielder Jackson Irvine is on the verge of joining the club, having scored ten times in the league last season, but Slutsky needs a striker, and must consider an offer for Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle.

The 26-year-old forward was instrumental in the Magpies’ title winning campaign last season, scoring 23 goals as Newcastle returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Gayle is extremely proven at this level, and with Newcastle reportedly willing to sell the player to raise funds, Slutsky must swoop for the former Peterborough forward.

A top class striker can often prove the difference between another year in this division and promotion to the top flight, and if Hull can pull off an audacious move the forward, then Slutsky’s men would have to be considered one of the favourites for promotion.

Is Gayle exactly the type of man your side needs, Hull fans?
