Hull City should sign this Championship defender to fill the void left by Maguire

Hull City are facing a battle to keep some of their best players at the club this summer.

Following their relegation to the Championship, a number of the Hull City stars could be heading for the exit door ahead of next season.

This means that Hull will be light in certain areas of the pitch if new manager Leonid Slutsky does not move swiftly to snap up replacements.

One of those areas is centre half.

Harry Maguire is set to join Leicester City in a big money move and this will be a big loss for Hull.

Meanwhile, Curtis Davies has already left the Tigers to join Derby County.

Michael Dawson has also been linked with a move away and Andrea Ranocchia has returned to Inter Milan after his loan spell expired.

Hull need a new centre back as a matter of priority – preferably one who is a proven performer at Championship level.

They should therefore target Marc Roberts.

The Barnsley skipper has been a rock at the back for the Tykes as they finished in the relative comfort of mid-table this season.

The towering centre half has worked his way up via non-league and now is one of the most coveted defenders in the second tier.

With some Premier League interest in Roberts, Hull would have to move quickly to secure his services.

With more financial muscle than Barnsley, Hull could look to poach the 26-year-old and offer him higher wages.

Furthermore, Hull will be able to tempt him with a very realistic chance of winning promotion.
