Hull have had to endure this summer’s transfer window after relegation from the Premier League, and desperately need new signings to become promotion favourites once more.
The Tigers finished 18th in the Premier League table last year and came desperately close to survival, a defeat at home to Sunderland proving fatal in their hopes to stay in the top flight.
Marco Silva led an extremely valiant charge for safety, and his move to Watford means Leonid Slutsky is tasked with taking the club back to the Premier League.
His task has been made considerably harder, however, by the club’s lackadaisical approach to letting their players depart this summer.
Curtis Davies, Harry Maguire and Tom Huddlestone are just a few of the names to depart, and the club quickly needs to bring in names before the season starts.
Given their heavy losses at the back, the club should move for a man who was a rock at centre back for Leeds United last year – Kyle Bartley.
Bartley joined Leeds on loan for the season last year and was an absolute star for the club throughout.
He made 45 appearances for the side and formed a formidable partnership with Pontus Jansson in defence.
The fatal error on Leeds’s part was not inserting an option to buy in his loan move, and he has returned to Swansea.
It is extremely unlikely he will return to Elland Road, but Hull are a club who definitely have the cash the dislodge him from the clutches of Swansea, where it seems unlikely for him to play a big role.
With Davies and Maguire gone, Bartley can help to fill the void for Hull and is a player of enormous quality at this level, something Hull need desperately.
