According to respected journalist Alan Nixon, Premier League outfit Swansea City are willing to pay £15m for Hull City talisman Sam Clucas, in order to fight off competition from Burnley.

Nixon is of the opinion that such a high bid really gives the Tigers a headache, but their decision should be simple - they will not sell at any price.

The first complication with that is that Clucas' head might be turned, but with Paul Clement's side having just sold Gylfi Sigurdsson, it shouldn't be too hard to convince the former Chesterfield man that Swansea are among the prime candidates to be plummeting into the second tier in twelve months anyway, which should convince him to stay.

So far this summer, following their relegation to the second tier, new boss Leonard Slutsky has seen key players Harry Maguire, Andy Robertson, Eldin Jakupovic, Curtis Davies, Tom Huddlestone, Ahmed Elmohamady and Josh Tymon sold off from under his nose, and along with Premier League parachute payments, it is clear that Hull really do not need any more money.

On another note, the bid does not even really make sense for Swansea - they should be in the market for a playmaker to replace Sigurdsson, and Clucas would be well within his rights to question where he even fits into what the Welsh club are trying to do.

Whatever the Swans bid, so long as Clucas is settled, Hull should be able to reject it because they really should be in such sound financial shape that no amount of money should tempt them.

However, we should remember that this is Hull and the Allams we are talking about - and while it makes no sense to sell, nobody would wager any serious money that they won't.
