With pre-season now underway, Hull City fans will be worried about their lack of options up and down the pitch.

This is most particularly evident at centre-back.

Hull City's centre-back options were quite good last year but they have been depleted.

Star defender Harry Maguire has been snapped up by Premier League outfit Leicester City while Curtis Davies has opted to join Gary Rowett's Derby County in the Championship, instead of remaining at the KCOM Stadium.

Meanwhile, Andrea Ranocchia returned to Inter Milan after a positive loan spell with Hull City in the top flight and Alex Bruce was released.

Leonid Slutsky will be looking at his options and realising that Michael Dawson is the only senior centre-half in his ranks at the moment and even he has been linked with an exit.

Hull City need two or three new centre-backs this summer.

To fill one of these vacant spots, the Tigers should take a gamble on Motherwell defender Ben Heneghan.

Heneghan enjoyed a very successful year at the back for the Scottish Premiership outfit and is being tracked by Rangers.

Hull could be a more appealing prospect than Rangers, though, if they can promise the 23-year-old that they will be seriously competing for promotion back to the Premier League.

Heneghan, who is formerly of non-league Chester, enjoyed the best season of his career to date in 2016/17 and will be looking to kick on next year.

The young centre-half might look to return to England and a big club like Hull City could attract him.
