Hull City are trying to sign Stockport County centre-half Festus Arthur, according to BBC Humberside journalist David Burns.

Arthur is just 18-years-old, and is hoping to make the jump up to the Championship as he is a player that is very highly-rated amongst the league and tipped to have a bright future.

The defender is known for the powerful nature of his play and has a strong physicality when called upon in the Stockport defence.

He's made 24 appearances during the current campaign, and would likely be loaned out at some point if he was to make the switch to a side four divisions higher than his current club.

It could prove to be a smart of piece of business from Hull, as they hope to keep star player Jarrod Bowen at the club over the next week. It could be a season-defining week for the Tigers, and Arthur could well be one of the names coming into the club.

The Verdict

It's smart business, and perhaps more clubs should follow suit and look for young lower-league talent and then try and improve them as they get older.

Arthur is clearly highly-rated in the lower divisions and there's no reason why a side such as Hull can't take him on and develop the player into becoming a future Championship star.

Grant McCann will hope that he can get some more business done in the coming week, and he'll have to ensure that it doesn't involve Bowen leaving the club.

Again, it's a good, smart move from Hull and a lot more clubs should be looking at this kind of deal.
