Hull City are set to make a £4.5 million bid for Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede, according to Sports Mole.

Hull lost both strikers Abel Hernandez and Nikica Jelavic in their 1-0 defeat to Leicester City last weekend, and were keen to expand their goal scoring options anyway, but now Hull boss Steve Bruce will be desperate to get a striker in this January.

They yesterday lost out to Crystal Palace in the race for Yaya Sanogo and face competition from West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City for the signature of Gestede.

The 26-year-old has scored 12 in 24 games this season, and scored a total of 26 goals in 2014, the top Championship scorer of last year.

Blackburn are currently looking to continue a promotion push, and are known for having a lethal strike force this season, in Jordan Rhodes and Gestede.

They are currently under a transfer embargo after breaching financial fair play rules, so they would be very keen not to let one of their most vital players leave.

Gary Bowyers Blackburn side played Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend, and despite dominating possession and having an equal number of shots, they were defeated 1-0 thanks to a Dave Edwards strike.

Manager Gary Bowyer spoke to the Rovers official site after the game and said:

"It was massively frustrating.

"It is hugely disappointing because of the manner in which we had been playing recently, we haven't executed the basics right enough today.

"We knew what Wolves would be about in terms of their game plan to counter us and that is exactly what happened.

"We weren't at the standards that the players had set themselves, that is the disappointment, we should have done better than that.

"We didn't hit the heights we've shown recently. In terms of our intensity we've not really put them under the sort of pressure that we do at home, we didn't do enough.

"We'll be back in tomorrow, we'll get the players heads back up and start preparing for Wigan."

Rovers currently sit in tenth position in the Sky Bet Championship, whilst Hull City lie in 18th place in the Barclays Premier League.
