Hull City are set to land promising Yeovil Town star Alex John, beating off a number of Premier League clubs in the process, according to transfer insider Graeme Bailey.

The 18-year-old, who is yet to feature so far this season the Glovers, had spent three months on loan at Southern League Premier Division side Gosport Borough.

John signed his first professional contract over the summer and now looks set to take the huge step up from the National League to the Championship.

City have already seen three incomings at the KCOM so far this window, as well as three outgoings, including the deadline day departure of Kamil Grosicki.

It is so far unconfirmed what kind of fee Hull will have to pay for the 18-year-old should this deal materialise throughout the day, but it is likely that the player will link up with City's development squads.

The Verdict

Some City fans may be forgiven for asking who exactly is Alex John, with the deal not necessarily being one of the most exciting transfers on this deadline day.

City fans, however, must remember the club signing a 17-year-old Jarrod Bowen back in 2014 from Hereford United in a similar situation.

The youngster is clearly highly rated by some, with Premier League clubs also sniffing around the player, and should City pull off this move it could be seen as a strong signing to watch in the future.

Although this could represent some good business for the club, Hull fans will be hoping that their side moves quick in order to replace the outgoing Grosicki and the impending departure of Bowen.
