Kevin Stewart is set to step up his return to action by featuring for Hull City’s under-23 squad this afternoon, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

Hull have been without Stewart for the majority of the Sky Bet Championship campaign, after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury just 10 minutes into his debut for the club.

The midfielder, who was an arrival from Liverpool over the summer, limped out of August’s clash with Queens Park Rangers and has since suffered multiple setbacks with his ankle injury.

The 24-year-old will now look to prove his fitness to Leonid Slutsky this afternoon, when he lines up against Crewe Alexandra for Hull’s under-23 squad.

Hull’s first-team have made a mixed start to their Championship return without Stewart, with the Tigers struggling to find any real consistency with a new look squad.

Slutsky’s side sit 17th in the Championship table having picked up 12 points from their opening 11 fixtures of the season.

Prior to last week’s international break, Hull managed to end a disappointing five game winless run, handing Birmingham City a heavy defeat at the KCOM Stadium in the Tigers’ most convincing display of the season so far.

Slutsky watched on as his side beat the Blues 6-1.

The Verdict

This is a major positive for Hull, who had brought Stewart to the club during the summer with the hope he would be a key player from central midfield.

Stewart has been unfortunate with injuries, and his return to action is a timely boost for Hull, who are looking to build on an impressive display against Birmingham City.

Should Stewart come through his under-23 performance, it would be no surprise to see him in Hull’s matchday squad against Norwich City at the weekend.
