Hull City have confirmed the arrival of youngsters Tom Powell and James Yates, to bolster their development squad ahead of next season.

Powell is an 18-year-old striker, who arrives on a two-year deal from League 1 outfit Wigan Athletic, where enjoyed a hugely impressive 2016/17 season.

Last term, the teenage hitman netted 28 goals across all competitions for the Latics' Under 18 team, and will look to further his development at the KCOM Stadium, with an eye on eventually adding firepower to new Tigers boss Leonard Slutsky's senior frontline.

With Adama Diomande and fellow youngster Jarred Bowen the only two fit senior strikers at the club, Powell may harbour hopes that he might be handed senior match time, sooner rather than later, if he can hit the ground running at the recently-relegated Humberside outfit.

Slutsky claimed he had been watching a lot of football across England's top three tiers, prior to his appointment at Hull, and looks to be substantiating that claim by sanctioning a move for a prospect currently catching the eye a long way from the bright lights at the top of the English game.

Yates, meanwhile, is a 19-year-old full-back, formerly of Everton, and has sufficiently impressed during a trial period towards the back of the 2016/17 campaign, when the Tigers were managed by Marco Silva, to be awarded a one-year deal at the KCOM Stadium.
