Former Peterborough United defender Ryan Tafazolli is training with Hull City as preparations for the 2019/20 campaign get well underway, as per reports from the Hull Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old is currently a free-agent having been let go upon the expiry of his contract at London Road, making over 130 appearances for the League One club since his move from Mansfield Town in 2016.

The centre-half is no stranger to new Hull boss Grant McCann - he was one of the Northern Irishman's first signings after taking the reins of the Cambridgeshire outfit.

The Tigers were linked with a move to sign Tafazolli in the January transfer window, but it looks as if the Yorkshire club could now be set to land the defender on a free transfer this summer.

The Hull Daily Mail claims that Tafazolli is training with the Tigers over in Marbella, as they prepare for the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

They will face Leyton Orient in their first pre-season friendly on Tuesday night, with McCann looking to implement his playing style on his new team.

The Verdict

I was very surprised to see Peterborough part ways with Tafazolli at the end of last season, given how much of a solid figure he had been for them since signing from Mansfield Town.

Ball-playing, left-sided centre halves are hard to come by nowadays, and I think that Tafazolli has been definitely right up there as one of the best defenders in League One over the past couple of years.

He's entering his prime years at the age of 27, and is more than deserving of a chance to impress in the Championship, regardless of whether that's under McCann or not.

They definitely need to add another commanding figure to their back-line, as they somewhat struggled when Tommy Elphick returned to Aston Villa last term.
