Hull City reveal outlook over transfer for 22-year-old midfielder

Hull City have been eyeing up plenty of players this summer already according to various reports – but one move that doesn’t like it will happen is a deal for Gavin Kilkenny, as reported by Hull Live.

The 22-year-old had his breakout campaign for Bournemouth last season and managed the most appearances of his career to date, with 14 league outings.

He’d previously managed just one appearance in the Championship and no showings back when they were in the Premier League but was allowed to feature as a squad rotation piece for the Cherries in the last campaign.

How many appearances did Josh Magennis make for Hull during his time at the club?

It looked like he had impressed Hull with his showings too, with the second tier side linked with a bid for the player this offseason. It looked like the Tigers were keen to add him to their ranks as an option in the centre of the field.

However, rumours of a deal taking place have now been quashed, with Hull Live reporting that a move for Kilkenny actually won’t be on the cards for the Tigers during this summer window.

The youngster might be available on a deal during the summer because of his side’s promotion to the top flight. It could see a reduction in his gametime, especially if the Cherries now use some of their additional funds to bring new faces in.

However, one side that he clearly won’t end up at is Hull, with the Tigers now seemingly out of the running for the signature of the 22-year-old during the current transfer window.

The Verdict

Gavin Kilkenny has managed to break into the first-team picture at Bournemouth and whilst he hasn’t been a regular go-to option with the side, he’s been used in rotation and hasn’t looked too out of place in the centre of the field.

Hull then could probably have used the addition of the youngster in midfield for them. Considering his age and the likely cost of a deal, it might have been a shrewd move for the club and a deal that could pay off for the side both now and in the future when he reaches his full potential too.

Now though, the Tigers have ruled themselves out of the running. That’s more of a blow than positive news, with Kilkenny probably not too bad of a signing for the side. They’ll probably still look elsewhere for midfield options as they’ll need some to help them kick on but it just won’t be Kilkenny it seems.

Bournemouth though might be quite happy to keep hold of the player and can use him sparingly in the top flight again next season – something the player will no doubt enjoy.
