Hull City are still interested in Motherwell defender Cedric Kipre despite seeing their first approach knocked back, according to The Yorkshire Post.

Motherwell rejected Hull's initial bid for the young defender and value him at £1m.

The 21-year-old only moved to Motherwell last summer after leaving Premier League side Leicester City.

Kipre played 48 times for Motherwell last season, helping them to two domestic cup finals and a mid-table Scottish Premiership spot.

The Ivory Coast under-23 international had been frustrated with a lack of opportunities in England, with his only senior playing time coming during a loan spell with non-league Corby Town.

The France-born defender also played in the Checkatrade Trophy for Leicester's under-23 side but never made a first-team appearance for the Foxes.

Hull are hoping to bring Kipre in after losing Michael Dawson to Nottingham Forest earlier in the window.

The Verdict

If Hull pull this off, this could be a very shrewd signing.

The towering 6ft 3in centre-half is physical, powerful and dominant at the back, making him perfectly equipped for the demands of the Championship.

After thriving with more first-team opportunities since moving to Motherwell, a return to England would be in the best interests of his career and Hull would get a promising first-team ready centre-back who is only going to improve.
