Hull City's assistant manager Andy Crosby has confirmed that Allan McGregor was not undergoing a medical at Rangers yesterday despite various reports suggesting that he was.

Crosby, standing in for Nigel Adkins at the pre-match press conference, rubbished rumours that McGregor was at Ibrox yesterday to undergo a medical ahead of a free transfer this summer.

The Scotland international is strongly linked with a return to Rangers, where he started his career, and a pre-contract deal was expected to be completed before this weekend's game.

But Crosby has moved to put this speculation to bed, insisting instead that McGregor was at Hull yesterday rather than up in Scotland.

The Hull assistant also confirmed that McGregor has not agreed terms yet with the Scottish side.

McGregor is out of contract at the end of this season but he has been a regular in goal for the Tigers, playing 43 matches in total this year.

Crosby confirmed that the club want to keep him but ultimately the decision is down to the player, who might fancy a return to his first club to see out his playing days.

The 36-year-old joined Hull in 2013 and has played nearly 150 games for the Tigers - but his time at the KCOM Stadium could be coming to an end.

The Verdict

Hull are clearly keen to keep McGregor but it seems like his heart is set on a move back to Rangers. The veteran stopper only has one or two more years left in him and Hull could use this opportunity to bring in a younger goalkeeper as his replacement. With David Marshall as back-up, they are not short of options between the sticks.
