According to ESPN, Leonid Slutsky is set to leave Hull City early next week, with the Sky Bet Championship club struggling to adapt to life back in the second-tier.

Slutsky was brought to the KCOM Stadium over the course of the summer, as Hull were preparing for life after Marco Silva and relegation from the Premier League.

The Russian oversaw a huge summer of change in playing personnel, but has failed to inspire Hull on their return to the Championship, with the Tigers facing the possibility of yet another fight against relegation.

Slutsky is set to leave Hull by the end of Monday, with the club sitting narrowly above the Championship’s relegation zone, with just three points separating them and the bottom three.

Hull have won on just four occasions under Slutsky this season, and failed to pick-up three points in yesterday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday, despite Slutsky’s side taking an early lead at Hillsborough.

Gary Hooper’s second-half double looked like it might hand Hull their 10th defeat of the season, but Michael Dawson stepped up late in injury-time to level the contest at 2-2, rescuing a point for Slutsky.

The Verdict

It isn’t a surprise to hear that Slutsky’s time at the KCOM Stadium is coming to an end, as he has failed to make any kind of impact in the Championship.

Hull are looking like they will be fighting relegation later this season, and it is absolutely vital something changes between now and Christmas, with the Tigers on a gradual slide.

Slutsky is a good coach, but his spell at Hull has been difficult.

If the Russian does leave, Hull face a huge task in luring a replacement to the KCOM Stadium.
