Hull City midfielder Max Sheaf is on the verge of joining Cheltenham Town on loan, according to Football Insider.

The 19-year-old is highly-regarded at Hull and made three substitute appearances for the Tigers last season.

The teenager signed a two-and-a-half-year contract extension in December and Hull are prepared to loan him out to allow him to experience regular first-team football.

Sheaf had attracted interest from a number of EFL clubs this summer, but it is Cheltenham who look set to sign him after agreeing a season-long loan deal.

Hull finished 13th in the Championship last season under Nigel Adkins and will be hoping to challenge further up the table this season under new manager Grant McCann.

McCann took charge at the KCOM Stadium last month, following Adkins' decision to turn down a new contract, and has already made five new signings this summer.

The Tigers will begin their new campaign with an away game against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium and will be hoping to start the season with three points.

The Verdict

Sheaf is a promising young player - he wouldn't have been on the books of a club like Arsenal unless he had the potential to be something special.

The midfielder is obviously rated highly for the future at Hull, as he has already made a few appearances for the first-team and he signed a new deal at the club as recently as December.

He probably isn't going to get too many opportunities at the KCOM Stadium this season though, so it's a sensible decision for McCann to send him out on loan and it will allow him to gain some valuable first-team experience.
