Sebastian Larsson is a free agent this summer with Swedish side AIK finalising a deal for him, according to Aftonbladet.

Hull opted to give the 32-year-old midfielder a new contract, according to the Hull City retained list on the official site.

However, it appears as if he wants to move back to his home country after spending 17 years in England.

Larsson only joined the Tigers last summer, but it was a one-year contract. He made 40 appearances in the league this season with two goals and four assists from his deep midfield positions, so he was a key player.

Hull were one of the most exciting sides to watch this season with 70 goals scored, but they also had huge issues such as the fact they also conceded 70 goals.

The Verdict

Hull's issues this season may have convinced Larsson that they weren't going to achieve promotion anytime soon, so he should look for other opportunities such as playing for one of the top clubs in Sweden.

He has spent his entire senior playing career in England, so it's understandable that he wants to try elsewhere.

The Tigers do have options able to replace him because Marcus Henriksen, Jackson Irvine and Kevin Stewart can all play in those deep midfield positions. They also have Daniel Batty and James Weir coming through into the first-team.

However, this is another major departure that they will have to deal with because Michael Dawson and Abel Hernandez are both free agents in the summer as well.
