The Hull Daily Mail report that Hull City midfielder Tom Huddlestone has been offered a new contract by the club.

The report outlines that the experienced midfielder has been the subject of a £2m bid from Championship rivals Derby County, the club where he started his career.

The bid has triggered his release clause, so new Hull manager Leonard Slutsky has moved to offer the former Tottenham Hotspur man a new contract, leaving the decision over Huddlestone's future employment to the player himself.

The Tigers started their Premier League campaign last season with a threadbare squad that was never really fit for purpose, and the doubts over Huddlestone's future compound fears that it could be a similarly story this time around, as they embark on the task of getting back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Slutsky has already seen Harry Maguire and Josh Tymon leave the KCOM Stadium, returning to the Premier League with Champions League quarter finalists Leicester City and Mark Hughes' Stoke City respectively.

Meanwhile, Slutsky has already lost one key player to Gary Rowett's Rams this summer, as influential centre back Curtis Davies departed the Humberside outfit to bolster the former Birmingham City manager's promotion push.

Highly-rated Scottish international left-back Andy Robertson is another who looks set for the Hull City exit door and with only one new arrival at the KCOM, Chelsea loanee Ola Aina, Slutsky needs to act quickly in the remaining weeks of the transfer window if he is to construct a squad fit to take on the rigours of the second tier next season.
