Hull City are pushing to do a deal for Ashley Fletcher, with the Middlesbrough striker emerging as a transfer target at the KCOM Stadium.

Nigel Adkins’ side have staged a major revival in recent weeks, stringing together six consecutive victories, including ending Leeds United’s seven-match unbeaten run.

Now, the Tigers are plotting a high-profile transfer swoop.

According to Alan Nixon, Adkins is pushing to bring Ashley Fletcher on board, as he looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the second-half of the Championship season.

The 23-year-old is bang out of favour at the Riverside Stadium under Tony Pulis and has made only 11 appearances across all competitions.

They’ve brought three goals, but he looks unlikely to break into the manager’s plans regularly during the second-half of the season.

Should Hull push a deal over the line in the coming weeks, it’ll be Fletcher’s second loan spell away from Boro in as many years.

Last season, he was part of the Sunderland squad to slip out of the Championship.

Fletcher made 16 appearances for the Black Cats, starting 15 of those games and returning only two goals.

The Verdict

Fletcher is struggling to settle anywhere at the early stage of his career, but there’s no doubt that he’s a talented player and hard working.

Those are traits that will appeal to Hull, and Adkins could help him discover his best.

A move makes sense and this time, it could really be the making of the young striker.
