Hull City manager Steve Bruce is looking at the possibility of loaning Manchester United shot-stopper Sam Johnstone, reports the Hull Daily Mail

Sam Johnstone is wanted by Hull City

Gary Walsh, a former Manchester United player and now part of Bruce's backroom staff, went to scout Johnstone last Monday in the Red Devils' Under-21 clash against Everton.

Bruce has made it clear that he would like to bring in another goalkeeper following the retirement of veteran shot-stopper Steve Harper this summer.

And Johnstone could be who he turns his attention to next.

The 22-year-old has experience of playing in the Football League, having had loan spells at clubs such as Scunthorpe United, Walsall, Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers and, most recently, Preston North End, where he spent the second half of last season.

The Manchester United youth academy graduate, who has never appeared for the first team, has also represented England at various youth levels, and is a very highly-rated goalkeeper.

The Tigers boss failed with an attempt to bring in Southend United's Daniel Bentley in the summer, but Johnstone will provide strong competition for Allan McGregor and Eldin Jakupovic should Bruce be successful with a loan offer.

Hull have kept just three clean sheets so far this campaign, but so far maintain an unbeaten home record. The Tigers are fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table and are eager to make an instant return to the Premier League following relegation last season.

The East Yorkshire side face a trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and it remains to be seen whether a loan offer for Johnstone materialises, and whether he will be part of Bruce's squad for what should be a highly entertaining encounter.
