Hull City have joined Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest in the pursuit of Bristol Rovers' Tom Lockyer, according to reporter David Burns.

The defender is a free agent this summer with his contract expiring, and he has reportedly been in discussion with four Championship clubs regarding his future.

Lockyer has spent the last eight years with the Gas, and has made a total of 284 appearances for the club since joining from Cardiff City as a youngster in 2011.

He impressed as Rovers' captain last season as his club secured a mid-table finish, however he is now keen on a move away from the Memorial Stadium to progress his career.

Portsmouth are reportedly very keen on Lockyer's services as they start preparing for life without Matt Clarke, who looks set to be on the move this summer, while the report also says the extent of Forest's interest still remains unclear.

And, it now appears as though the Tigers have emerged as candidates to land the 24-year-old who is a man in demand.

Lockyer made 48 appearances and scored four goals in all competitions for Graham Coughlan's side last term.

The Verdict

Lockyer's performances have proven he is capable of playing at a higher level, and I think he is now ready to make the step up to the Championship.

The fact he is now a regular in the Wales squad indicates the extent of his abilities, and Hull should now really stake their claim to Lockyer's services.

It would be a shrewd addition that could add a refreshing look to Nigel Adkins' defence.
