Oxford United star Marvin Johnson has revealed that he wants to leave this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

Amid some interest from Hull City, Marvin Johnson has told Oxford United manager Pep Clotet that he would like to leave before the end of the summer transfer window.

Oxford United only signed Johnson last summer from Motherwell but he impressed in a variety of positions last term.

The former Solihull Moors and Kidderminster Harriers man was traditionally a left winger but was converted into a left back or a left wing back for periods of last season.

Oxford United want to keep Marvin Johnson and have previously rejected a bid in the region of £1m from Hull City.

Hull City are expected to improve their bid after being alerted to Johnson's desire to leave.

The 26-year-old played 52 games last season for Oxford United in all competitions, netting six goals in total.

So far this year for the U's, Marvin Johnson has played three times and scored once, tapping in a rebound after missing a penalty against Cheltenham in the Carabao Cup.

However, the skillful wide man has now stated his desire to leave amid interest from the Championship.

The Verdict

At the age of 26, Marvin Johnson probably sees this as his big opportunity to play at a higher level.

The former Motherwell man has had to bide his time before earning a big move and Hull City would be a fantastic opportunity for him so it is hard to begrudge him this chance - it may never come around again.

Last season, he was tracked by the likes of Celtic and Manchester City as over thirty scouts were reportedly watching him for Oxford.

Johnson could initially solve Hull's left back crisis and then operate further up the field if the Tigers sign a permanent replacement for Andy Robertson.
