According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City are looking to complete the signing of Burton Albion’s Jackson Irvine.

It is believed that the fee for Irvine is around £2m, with Hull holding talks with the midfielder over the weekend, which forced him to miss Burton’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Irvine has attracted attention from a host of clubs this summer, but it looks like Hull will be the club that win the race to sign the Australian and lure him away from Burton after just one season.

The 24-year-old joined Burton last summer from Ross County, and went on to seriously impress during his first season in the Sky Bet Championship, helping Nigel Clough’s side secure their second-tier status against all odds.

Irvine scored 10 Championship goals last season for the Brewers, and started the 2017/18 campaign among the goals, scoring on just his second appearance.

That goal came in a 4-1 defeat to Hull earlier in August, a fixture that the Australian was later sent-off in, following two bookable offences.

Irvine is not the only Championship player on the verge of joining Leonid Slutsky’s Hull revolution, with Nouha Dicko also close to completing a move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hull and Wolves have reportedly agreed a fee of around £3.5m for the striker.

The Verdict

Hull’s squad is almost unrecognisable from the one that finished the 2016/17 campaign, with Slutsky forced to build an entirely new squad following his appointment as the club’s manager.

It remains to be seen if the Russian’s reshape has been a success after a difficult start to the season. However, the addition of Irvine will not be seen as a risk, with the Australian one of the best in his particular position.

Irvine will add goals from midfield, whilst also bringing energy to Hull’s engine room following the departure of Sam Clucas.
