Hull City midfielder David Milinkovic has left the club to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps, the Championship side have confirmed.

Milinkovic joined Hull from Italian outfit Genoa back in the summer of 2018, and has since gone on to make 12 appearances in all competitions for the Tigers, scoring once in 3-0 win at Tranmere Rovers in the League Cup earlier this season.

The 25-year-old has now joined the Canada-based team on a one-year loan deal, with the Whitecaps holding the option to make that move permanent when the loan expires in 12 months time.

There are currently 18 months remaining on Milinkovic's contract with Hull, securing his future at the club until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Despite being Canadian, Vancouver play the majority of their football in the American top-flight, and last season finished bottom of the league's Western conference, and 23rd out of 24 teams overall.

The Verdict

This certainly looks to be the best move for all parties.

In spite of whatever expectation there may have been on Milinkovic following his arrival at Hull, things just simply haven't worked out for him at the KCOM Stadium, meaning a parting of the ways did seem inevitable.

Having struggled for game time almost since his arrival at Hull, this move ought to give Milinkovic the first-team opportunities he has surely been craving for quite some time now, and it will be interesting to see what he can make them.

For Hull as well, this does at the very least clear some space in the club's squad and wage budget, while potentially earning them a transfer fee as well if Milinkovic impresses, meaning this looks as though it could work out well for them as well.
