Sports journalist Alan Nixon has revealed on his official Twitter account that Hull City are very close to signing Burton Albion’s in demand midfielder Jackson Irvine.

The 24-year-old only signed for Burton last year from Scottish side Ross County FC but following an impressive debut season which saw the Australian score 10 goals in 42 league games from the centre of midfield, it looks like he could soon be moving again.

Leonid Slutsky has plenty of money to spend following the sale of their star midfielder Sam Clucas in a £16.5 million deal to Premier League side Swansea.

Both Hull and Leeds United are linked with the Burton man with the Tigers thought of as the favourites to land his signature.

Should Irvine sign for Hull he will become the club’s tenth summer signing.

The Verdict

Irvine will be a great addition to Slutsky’s side if they can get this deal completed.

This will likely be the last signing for Hull this summer unless they can seal the deal with Jota as well but the Australian would complete a very strong midfield for the Tigers.

He consistently gives a good performance and that consistency can seriously help Hull towards the latter stages of the season if they find themselves in a push for promotion.

Hull haven’t had the best start to the Championship this season so a new signing wouldn’t exactly hurt their chances at this stage.
