Hull City have confirmed Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann as their new head coach.

The 39-year-old has signed a 12-month rolling contract at the KCOM Stadium, following a successful season in charge of Doncaster, where he guided the club to the League One play-offs.

McCann has replaces Nigel Adkins in charge of Hull, who left the club earlier this month, after guiding the team to a 13th-placed finish in the Championship last season.

McCann started his managerial career at Peterborough United, after two previous spells in caretaker charge and was able to guide the club to an 11th-place finish in League One in his first season as a manager.

He was sacked by Peterborough in February 2018, after a run of seven games without a win, with the team six points outside the play-offs in League One.

He was then appointed manager of Doncaster Rovers, where he exceeded expectations, guiding the club to the League One play-offs in his first and only season in charge at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Adkins left Hull earlier this month after 18 months in charge at the KCOM Stadium, after he turned down the offer of a new contract.

The Verdict

This could be a good appointment for Hull City.

McCann did a fantastic job during his first season in charge of Doncaster last season and exceeded all expectations by guiding the team to the League One play-offs.

I think he deserves a chance in the Championship and it's a real blow for Doncaster to lose him.

Even though he's not been a manager for that long, he's got plenty of experience as a coach and could be able to get the best out of the Hull players.

Hull will probably be expected to challenge for the Championship play-offs next season, so it will be interesting to see if McCann can handle the pressure.
