Hull City manager Steve Bruce has said that Nick Powell, on loan from Manchester United, is unlikely to feature again this season, reports Clubcall.com.

Powell has a torrid time with injuries over the past two years, as a severe hamstring problem left him sidelined for nine months last season.

He only returned to the Red Devils Under-21s side after 15 months out back in November, before making a substitute appearance in the club's crucial Champions League group tie at VFB Wolfsburg.

And Powell, whose contract expires this summer, will see this latest blow as a huge hit to his chances of making it in the United first team.

A recurrence of the hamstring problem had caused him to miss the last five games for Hull, but he suffered a thigh injury on his second day back at training and now could miss the remainder of the season.

Bruce said: 'He reinjured himself on Tuesday when he was just stepping up his training with us for a second day. Unfortunately he pulled a thigh.

'I don't think we'll see him again before the end of the season. Normally you're looking at three to four weeks for an injury like this.'

Powell earned himself a £4 million move to United in the summer of 2012, after he fired Crewe into League One. He subsequently spent a successful spell on loan at Wigan Athletic in 2013/14, scoring nine goals in all competitions.

He moved on loan to Leicester City the following season, but only made three substitute appearances before his loan was terminated in January, and he injured his hamstring in February of the same year.
