Following the departure of Scottish left-back Andrew Robertson to Liverpool, new Hull City manager Leonard Slutsky is desperate for a replacement to fill his boots, ahead of the big Football League kick off this weekend.

Former Russia manager Slutsky appears to be a shrewd appointment on the face of it, with his extensive international experience and commitment to getting to grips with the English game, even before he was handed the Hull job.

However, he cannot do the job without the necessary tools, and having been the latest Tigers manager to suffer as a result of a board that sells off his key players, with Curtis Davies, Tom Huddlestone and Josh Tymon among those who have followed Robertson out of the exit door, Slutsky is desperate for new arrivals.

However, he has a certain degree of cover across the other areas of the pitch, while there is simply a glaring hole in his left-back options, with no out and out left back, and no obvious compromises.

Moses Odubajo, who could provide an, admittedly awkward, compromise at left full back, is currently a long-term injury absentee, while Sam Clucas is the only option who could possibly fill in - although he would be more comfortable at left-wing-back, if Slutsky fancies persisting with the 3-5-2 formation that Hull City's former manager Steve Bruce used frequently at the KCOM Stadium.

Moreover, Clucas is Hull's current key player, so moving him ahead from central midfield would be a risk - making Slutsky's need for a new left back all the more pertinent.
