Kamil Grosicki has revealed how close he came to leaving Hull City this summer, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

Following Hull’s relegation from the Premier League last season, Grosicki was expected to be on the move this summer, with a host of clubs willing to offer him a route out of East Yorkshire.

The Polish winger has confirmed that he was on the radar of both West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace, whilst the player also believed a move to Fiorentina was on the cards during the summer.

Grosicki expressed his disappointment at failing to seal a move away from the KCOM Stadium, admitting that he was still asking himself why a transfer did not go through.

Speaking to the Polish media about interest from rivals clubs, Grosicki said: “I was close to West Bromwich Albion. I heard that Tony Pulis called five times and tried to get me. In Crystal Palace Andros Townsend was about to move to Leicester, and then I would get his place in Palace, but he stayed at the club.

“Now I can tell that I was also very close to Fiorentina. We made agreement in just 10 minutes, so I have no idea why I didn’t sign for them.”

Despite his obvious desire to move away from Hull during the summer, Grosicki insisted that he would continue to give his all for the Tigers, who he is contracted with until the summer of 2020, he continued:

“But I’d like to say that I’m professional so I will help my team. I feel well in Hull. I have respect for the club and all people from Hull.”

The 29-year-old has started the 2017/18 campaign magnificently for Hull, grabbing two goals and three assists from his opening five appearances of the season.

Grosicki helped Leonid Slutsky’s side to seven-points before the international break, with the Tigers making a steady start to their Championship return.

Slutsky’s side face Derby County this Friday, where they will be looking for another three-points.

The Verdict

Grosicki’s quotes are extremely honest and reveal just how close he came to turning his back on Hull over the summer.

Whilst some Hull fans may be disappointed to hear the winger’s comments, they will be encouraged by his commitment to the club so far this season, with Grosicki playing a key role for the Tigers.

Grosicki has proved so far this season how important he is to Hull, and all at the KCOM Stadium will hope he continues to impress following the international break.
