Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky has been reflecting on his side’s summer transfer business, via the club’s official website.

The Tigers were relegated from the Premier League last season, and as with any side dropping down a division, much change has taken place at the KCOM Stadium over the summer.

Manager Marco Silva took over at Watford while the likes of Eldin Jakupovic and Harry Maguire also made the move to the Premier League; the experienced duo of Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone also left the club.

Nonetheless, Slutsky brought 13 players to the North East outfit in a bid to bolster his ranks, three of which coming in on loan, and the former Russia and CSKA Moscow boss has been reflecting on their summer business, while also expressing his delight that the window is now shut.

He said: ‘Each player that has joined us is really of a good level, but each player now needs time to adapt.

‘Really, there is not a lot of time because we now start to play every three or four days but we are happy to work.

‘I am very happy that the transfer window is now closed. It was a difficult time with a lot of negotiations, not knowing who might stay and who might go, and who might come here and who might not.’

These comments are sure to intrigue Hull supporters, who have seen their side make a solid start to the Championship season with two wins from their opening five matches, leaving Slutsky’s men eighth in the division.

And the likes of Nouha Dicko, Jackson Irvine, and Fikayo Tomori will hope to earn their Tigers debuts this weekend when they return to league action against Derby County on Friday night.

The Verdict: Leonid Slutsky certainly hasn’t given himself the easiest of first jobs in English football, but deserves huge credit for reinvigorating a Hull City side that saw several of its key players leave over the summer.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Tom Huddlestone, and Curtis Davies all moved on during the close season, but Slutsky himself has used his contacts in the game to bring 13 new additions to the club, the standout certainly that of Burton Albion’s Jackson Irvine, who was excellent for the Brewers last term.

Alongside a solid start to the season, things are certainly looking up at the KCOM Stadium, and the first test of that optimism will take place at Pride Park on Friday night against Derby County.
